Camera Arts Blog

Tired Bones

Tired Bones

A couple of days ago at the end of April I posted an image to Camera Arts magazine for their monthly on-line contest, which for April the subject was Travel. In checking their blog this morning, there it was, my image had made the first cut and is now posted on Flickr for “judging”. The image is in my earlier post below, “Frosty Morning in La Heutte” Switzerland. This is nice indirect feedback from the Editors, it makes me wonder if the Editors may be open to looking at more of my images?

And this is also a nice segway in to photographic fine art marketing, which as “artist”, we are suppose to be above all of this marketing stuff on our path of self-discovery. Ops, getting a bit sarcasitic. Yes, a for-profit gallery needs to be involved in all of the aspects of marketing, sales, inventory, promotion, and advertising. Even for the artist who seems to be indeed above these business basics, these issues still surface. Somehow we need to pay the rent, buy food, etc.

A part of our fine art marketing, for those who are not represented by a gallery, is advertising. The two very basic forms of advertising are the direct (you pay for the display advertisement in the photographic art magazine) and the indirect, which includes such items as the free photo contest and if you are fortunate, you image gets published, as mine has just been this morning. I really like the free ones such as the one sponsored by Camera Arts and I sure would like to know about similar opportunities, so please share with us all with your added comments to this post, thanks!

Oh yes, this blog, as it is FREE, can be also considered a part of the indirect advertising that an artist can use. You just need to figure out how to allow the blog admin let your post on the web or making your images vanish after the fact. Thats the part I’m working on :- )

Best regards, Doug

Added note; it appears that when I create the image for the blog, that in the Photoshop “save for the web” option, I may be saving it at too high a jpg resolution. I use “high” for my web site, and now I will use medium  for this blog site. Which means that I need to spend some time this morning and redo all the the images and upload again. If it will keep the WordPress admins happy.
