Enjoy the Day

I have been trying to keep my priorties in balance lately, including the old adage to Enjoy the Day, as today is all that you have. So while I was getting my post ready for an update on Place and Landscape, I had to get some ballet images of my granddaughter on to a CD for my daughter and son-in-law. So can you blame me for having a good reason to be ‘distracted’, as these couple of images seemed a lot more important TODAY.

Interestingly, I was just reading a book about Edgar Degas and his pastels, drawings and paintings of the ballet just before going into the rehearsel area where the kids were practicing for an upcoming competition. Little did I know that that this was a dress rehearsal. It became a Degas moment!

Add to that, I think that most now know that Degas was a photographer who used his images of his ballet models, etc to help compose and develop his ballet paintings. With that little knowlege, Degas’ paintings take on an interstering compositional interest, the foreshortening, cropping, line, space and volume.

Like wise, I found myself with a similar opportunity to study this ballet corp, especially when the kids were so engrosed in what they were doing and their friends that they totally ignored me. A wonderful moment.

So I hope that you likewise ‘enjoy your day’.

Best regards, Doug

  1. My watercolors and acrylics are mostly retired right now, as I could never catch this kind of spontaneity and light.
