Book Workshop with SEC4P – this November 2023

.

Update: This book workshop has been delayed until 2024! Revised dates: The new dates are January 20, 21 and then 27, 28th 2024, from 10 AM – 1 PM, Eastern Standard Time (EST).

I am excited to announce that I will be leading another virtual book workshop, Developing a Creative Photo Book, with SouthEast Center for Photography (SEC4P) this November 4 & 5th and 11, & 12th, 2023, from 10 AM – 1 PM, Eastern Standard Time (EST). I think that this is either the fifth or sixth book workshop I had led for SEC4P.

I have designed this workshop so that we work on the basics the first weekend and then have a week of in-between for everyone to continue developing their book-dummy, then the following weekend over the next two days we continue to fine tune it. As a part of this workshop, we include a group critique of each participants book project that has in the past provided some amazing feedback and interesting insights.

Making a book at times can be overwhelming, and a very different experience & skill set than making original works of art. This book workshop is designed to fill that gap, allowing the inspiration of other photo books to guide and inform the process from start to finish. Working with a seasoned book designer and artist, each workshop participant will gain a clear understanding of the process. This is not a software driven class (lots of hands-on stuff); this is a workshop about making a physical book dummy that provides the tactical feel for the book you are wishing to publish.

The purpose of this workshop is to provide artists with the building blocks to move from a complex mass of images into a refined edit and subsequently sequence to create a pre-visualization of their book concept. Those who have benefited from this workshop have ranged from having an unorganized mess to a book layout that is about to be finalized with a publisher.

You can sign-up now, here. These workshops have sold-out frequently in the past (last one in four HOURS after we announced it), thus I recommend that you sign up sooner than miss out later.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Cheers,

Doug
