SeaKelp & Sea Stacks, Fall, Bandon, OR, 2022 copyright Douglas Stockdale –
This cyanotype was printed on the occasion of World Ocean Day; “One Ocean, One Climate, One Future”.
I photographed this composition while we were in Bandon last Fall for my son’s wedding. Our rental house was overlooking the beach and I could see this mass of sea kelp from the back deck. This cyanotype print is part of my developing Beach Lifestyle series (IG @beach.lifestyle.art).
Regretfully, I think, that this day’s weather was a bit tricky due to the dense fog lingering offshore, which I guess is typical for this time of year on the Northwest coast. I had thought about how to make some adjustments for this uneven sky, while on second thought, I decided to allow it to be what it is.
What I do not know is if these massive piles of kelp on the beach is typical or not for this time of year. Or if this is just another harbinger for the multitude of issues being brought on by climate change.
