I have continued to muddle on about what to do with the SoFoBoMo project and the resulting book. I think that I have come up with a possible solution. One of the things that Laurie Frank had said at the Palm Springs Photo Festival last night was that many of the artists in her gallery prepare a Blurb book to be provided with the photographs that are sold in her gallery. Then Gordon pointed out one example of the Limited Edition Blurb book.
But I have been really going back and forth about a Limited Edition book. And then the break through idea…
Right now I am about 30% complete on my first Blurb book for my series In Passing. Inadvertently, when I stated this book in Booksmart, I had chosen the horizontal 13″x11″ large format book layout. What I really wanted was the 10″x8″ horizontal format as it would pair up nicely with the Edition Folio cover, which is just about the same outside dimenison size. But what I found out is that with all of the images that I had already uploaded, Blurb has a save-as that keeps the images and lets you chose another format, saving me the trouble of uploading these images again. Yeah!
So what I decided I was going to do with In Passing was to create a hard bound 10×8″ that I was going to privately publish the limited number of these go with the Edition Folios. So when I was going to offer the Edition Folio with an Edition Book as a package. But then I was going to make a softbound (perfect bound) version of the same In Passing book contents for sale within the Blurb distribution sales system for whoever wanted a copy of the series.
Now my plan for SoFoBoMo is follow a similar plan; develop the Blurb book for two printed formats; a hard bound privately printed Edition Book to be sold in conjunction with a Edition Folio and a softbound version that I will make available through the Blurb sales distribution network. And yes, I do expect that if I choose 35+ images for a book, there should be 12 – 15 images that would work as an Edition Folio.
Best regards, Doug

What a great idea—breakthrough, indeed. I am quite eager to see your book. Will you be posting a PDF?
At the moment, I don’t think that I will have a PDF version. I keep hearing about the huge file sizes and one more thing I would need to learn to format. I am having available time issues at the moment, so I am trying to keep my options limited and leverage the time I have;- )
