My Los Angeles Center of Photography (LACP) workshop, Developing Your Creative Photo Book, due to the COVID-19 pandemic will be virtual on Zoom this year.
This book workshop will be a series of three-hour Zoom virtual segments spread over a span of four sessions starting on Saturday, March 14th. This four session workshop takes place on Saturdays and Sundays for two consecutive weekends from 9am–12pm (Pacific time).
A photographic book is a both a physical object as well as a creative medium to extend your photographic vision by expressing it as a unique and personal narrative. It is an opportunity to have a gallery without walls and reach a much larger community with your photographic work. In this workshop I will delve into the nuances of book publishing. Participants will learn the essentials of editing a large body of work to distill their vision into a more cohesive body of work and the importance of sequencing that work to create a rich narrative. Time will be allocated for individual critiques on projects that students wish to turn into book form. Each photographer’s vision, mission and objectives for the publication of a photographic project will be discussed.
There are some really nice aspects of this change to a virtual workshop; first is the cost avoidance for those who want to attend and will not need to pay for a hotel room or incur car expenses. Also a little bit less expensive to eat at home. Btw, I have found it really wonderful to work from home. Second, but probably most important, is the time between the virtual sessions to work on your book dummy project and then get feedback at the following session. I have found that this virtual workshop process will take a bit longer to complete, but pays extra dividends with the personal book development time. Third a virtual workshop from my studio allows me to pull from my library books to discuss or make a point during our time together.
Developing Your Creative Photo Book, March 13 – 14th, and March 20-21st from 9am – noon PST. Four days, two consecutive weekends, a virtual workshop on Zoom, with time between sessions to develop your book dummy. Sign-up here.
Cheers!
