October 2026 Road Trip

Road Trip, Oregon coast, copyright 2026 Douglas Stockdale –

Earlier this month was an interesting family wedding road-trip up to Oregon and back. When I saw this foggy urban landscape on the Oregon coast I realized it could be a great metaphor image for this road-trip update, since you can never tell in advance as to what might happen on a family adventure. Yes, also a bit of a tired metaphoric image, so nothing really new, while this photograph is mine! (Okay, lots and lots of Oregon coastal fog to experiment with)

Bottom line; my nephew and his sweetheart are now married. I was an unofficial photographer, so I concentrated on the wedding event details and casual images that the official wedding photographer might not have time for. Slowly working on getting those images fine-tuned and I hope to have this finished by the end of the week; then burn some thumb-drives and make a few prints for the family. fun-fun-fun.

We had four stops on this road-trip; first was in Eugene with my son and his wife. Then up to Silverton and the rental house for the wedding event in Scotts Mill. Next we drove to the Oregon coast and Pacific City for time with family at their beach ‘cottage’. Finally, another stop in Eugene before the drive back to SoCal and home. Interestingly, I brought up four cameras and used only two, with the thermal-print camera battery running out just as the wedding was about to start (my bad, I forgot to charge it the day before. sigh).

There will be a number of update posts for each of these stops; Eugene will include some flower (Dahlia) images for the tremendous Dahlia garden that Marnie is tending to and maybe some winery images. Silverton/Scotts Mill a mix of urban and some more environmental documentation on the after-effects of the Santiam wild fire in 2020. Pacific City will encompass all the Oregon coast landscape work that I have been posting on IG (@douglasstockdale) from my cell-phone. Lots of color in Northern California and Oregon on the road trip, while we enjoyed the view, not anything I felt required a stop to photograph.

Also returned with a new (to me) Fender Acoustic-electric bass, a wonderful hand-me-down from my brother-in-law who converted to his many 5-string basses over four years ago and this 4-string bass was not getting used. It will now. LoL!

Cheers!

Doug
