Earth Day

Anthropogenic Crisis No. 103140 (Melting City) copyright 2021 Douglas Stockdale –

Earth Day is an annual event on April 22nd to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, it now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally by EarthDay.org including 1 billion people in more than 193 countries. The official theme for 2022 is Invest In Our Planet.

I have come to understand that every day should be considered an Earth Day. I appreciate that there will be a pronounced focus on the climate change issues on April 22nd, but to do that just for one day is not going to be enough. I also understand that each of us needs to do our part, each and every day; what one thing have I done each day to combat global warming or ensure more global cooling?

As a photographer and visual artist, I have been thinking about my photographic practice; whether it is better for the environment to use my digital camera or my analog camera systems? Probably a bit more about the pros and cons about this later. But suffice to say, even thinking about the global impact of the carbon footprint of one versus the other is a start in the right direction.

Don’t take anything for granted and every little bit helps.

Peace

Doug
