SEC4P Open Call: The Green Environment

Anthropogenic Crisis No. 2191 Copyright 2010/2022 Douglas Stockdale

I am very excited and honored to be the juror for SouthEast Center of Photography (SEC4P) open call for the exhibition The Green Environment! As you might suspect, this theme really resonates with me. Here are some of the details from their website Prospectus:

(updated call) Landscape: The Green Environment, we are looking for work that explores a verdant landscape, be that in nature or in the midst of the city, visually expressing the concept of Green ecology or polices or addressing environment stewardship, such as visualizing the issues related to climate change and environmental concerns to keep the environment green. Photography has the creative capacity to make the unseen seen, which is perhaps critical to visual ideas related to a green environment. We are looking forward to seeing your best work.

Eligibility All photographers regardless of location, age or skill level. Images previously selected for exhibition at the SE Center for Photography within two years of the current exhibition are not eligible.

Fees $35 for up to 5 Images, $6 for each additional image up to 10. Members, $28 for up to 5 Images, $5 for each additional image up to 10.

Juror: Our juror for The Green Environment is Douglas Stockdale (me!), who is a visual artist, book-nerd, science-geek and leads our popular photobook development workshops. In 2008, Stockdale founded and is currently the Senior Editor of PhotoBook Journal, a virtual magazine that provides reviews of contemporary photographic books. He has had numerous solo and group exhibitions, as well as being published and self-publishing his own artist books. He will sometimes mysteriously pop-up on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and his own art/photo blog, Singular Images.

Selected images must be matted and framed up to 20” x 24” to professional standards.

Exhibition Details 35-40 Selected images will hang in the SE Center’s main gallery space for approximately one month with the opportunity to be invited for a solo show at a later date. In addition, selected images are featured in the SE Center social media accounts (FB, IG, Twitter) and an archived, online slide show. A video walkthrough of each exhibition is also featured and archived. Openings are timed to coincide with Greenville’s, First Fridays, a celebration of art, food and music. Juror selects the final number of images to be included in the exhibition. In the rare occurrence an insufficient number of images are selected, the Director of the SE Center reserves the right to include additional images from those submitted.

After the Show If your art does not sell at the exhibition you have the option to have it returned (Prepaid) or donate it to the SE Center’s Flat File. Flat File artwork is available for viewing, may be exhibited again, donated to another organization or sold to benefit the SE Center. If sold, the SE Center retains all profits of the sale. Flat File art is destroyed after two years of close of original exhibition.

Let me know if you have any questions and I look forward to seeing your work.

Cheers & make every day an Earth Day
