A wonderful start for the week when I was reading a Facebook shout out by a friend of mine, who listed me in her post about her making the first cut of the top 200 Finalist for this years Critical Mass. hmmmmm?? So intrigued, I check it out and WTF, there was my name listed. Wow!!
My project, Entanglement, is one that I have been working on for probably 15 plus years, which I had initially titled Gardening for Ordnance. Backstory: This is the WWII practice bombing range that was decommissioned in the 1980’s and eventually commercially developed with housing tracts, schools, businesses, parks, etc, on which we have lived for over twenty-five years. I have transitioned through a number of phases as I have developed this project; Aftermath photo-documentary, metaphor for anxiety and most recently how it can represent past governing policies that silently haunt us today. Mostly using very expired 120 film, the project has also transitioned from photo-realistic color to the current version using cyanotype prints. The expired film represents the expired buried military ordnance that still remains as well as old city and county government policies that lurk unseen but still impacting the social community today.
As you might suspect, a wonderful validation of this on-going project.
Now on my to-do list; update my website with my cyanotype print images. I am assuming that a bunch of folks might be poking that website over the next few weeks. Yes, I wonderful to-do task, which has totally re-prioritized my plans for today. LoL (Update: Done!)
