This is one of those Good News: Interesting News combinations, which will also be at least a two part series.
The Good News is that some of my cyanotypes from my Critical Mass 2023 Finalist (Entanglements) portfolio will be featured in the Fall 2023 issue of The Hand magazine. Very cool and another validation of this on-going project.
As to the Interesting News aspect, I do not know at this time which of my five submissions are being featured. The editor of this magazine has only let us know that we are included and we all need to wait until about mid-October when we receive our printed copy to figure what was included. Sly dog. I suspect that this is his tactics to partly to build-up of some suspense and concurrently hopefully pre-selling some copies, which can be ordered here. Meanwhile, like this post, everyone who is announcing their inclusion has only the magazine cover to share, thus a lot of their magazine cover photographs are now found across the dark web. LoL.
As background for The Hand magazine if you are not already familiar with it: The Hand is dedicated to being the world’s premier forum for “alternative” and historic photographic processes and all types of printmaking. We want to encourage inspiration, education, and community for artists using unique, mixed media, experimental, and idiosyncratic “reproduction-based” techniques. We do also print digital art work and art work where the subject matter has been manipulated, directed, or staged by the artist.
Thus, a great fit and an ideal magazine to feature and promote my cyanotype artwork, a historical process that dates back to the 1840’s when it was first discovered by Sir John Frederick William Herschel, making it one of the oldest photographic printing methods.
Which is why there will be a follow up post about mid-October when I find out which of my Entanglement cyanotypes are featured. Stay tuned!
Make every day an Earth Day
