Interesting that as my eight year of photographing my Memory Pods series comes to a close, I was actually thinking that this might be the last year to photograph my subjects. Okay, phase 1 of photographing my botanical subject is finished and now into phase 2 of creatively interpreting the photographic raw material. Then the crap happened with my camera-phone and losing two weeks of post-production of phase 2 images, but serendipitous a new camera/phone appears and I am starting to realize that there could be provide some new visual opportunities. Fortunately, my subjects will all reappear again next spring. wicked cool, eh?
I was also started thinking of some book design and layout options for this series, which I will start working on this book-dummy later this summer. I am thinking that I need to have another book-dummy to discuss with my Medium Workshop, which should be a wonderful win-win as I continue to work my book-dummy in conjunction with the workshop participant’s book-dummies.
While mopping about the two weeks of lost image development, I decided that this was becoming a downward spiral as to what is lost, is lost and it is never coming back again. Kinda like seeing something which quickly disappeared before you could get your camera engaged, thus only a mental image capture. So instead I have starting developing the images that I finished my phase 2 tweaking and getting some images for post-processing, such as the one in this post that dates from last May. Getting engaged like this is working really well to get my mojo re-started and a positive life spin.
For this image I opted for a lower contrast version with subtle colors, that might represent a little bit more somber mood. The ups and downs of life, eh? The background pods provide the kinda of depth that I have been experimenting with this year that also allows me to move my main subject a bit off-center, balanced by the background botanical that is on the right side.
Cheers
Doug
