Dana Point Harbor – dusk

As a urban landscape photographer, sometimes I just can’t pass up a great photographic opportunity, whether its a a cliche or not. In this case we were celebrating my daughter’s birthday with the family crowd and we just had a wonderful dinner. This is the viewpoint from the restaurant overlooking the Dana Point harbor towards San Clemente at the end of the evening.

For those who will note my slightly oversaturated colors, I don’t have any issues with a creative interpretation of an urban landscape. I think of myself as a visual artist and I can take compositional and other liberties to increase the visual drama as a way to remember this evening. I find this very pleasing and fun to create ;- D

I also had a chance to experiment/play with the night mode of the new Samsung S21Ultra camera phone. I made a couple of exposures before implementing this camera mode setting, then a few after, with this one resulting while using the night mode setting. Honestly, I did not see much difference in the photographs between the two modes. I will have to admit that this was just after sunset, thus at the interesting intersection of evening with dusk, so actually a fair amount of available light. I also anticipated some potential low-light issues and I used the top of a concrete barrier adjacent to the walkway to steady the phone for the resulting exposures, which probably helped to make the photographs appear comparable.

Cheers

Doug
