I am very excited to announce that I will be teaching my virtual book development workshop in conjunction with the Colorado Photographic Arts Center (CPAC) next May, 2022. This course was just announced by CPAC and its an honor for me to join this Denver organization’s workshop team.
Similar to my other Zoom workshops, there will be four sessions spread over concurrent weekends: Saturday & Sunday, May 14th & 15th and then Saturday & Sunday 21st and 22nd, 2022, from 1PM-4PM Mountain Time (MT). Our goal is to develop a physical book-dummy and the week between sessions has been an ideal time to synthesize what was discussed and work on the book-dummy.
Fundamental to the book development process is learning aspects of:
- Editing (Working with at a large project, making book selection(s), fine tuning an image)
- Sequencing of the body of photographs
- Image layout
- Font design
- Book designs
- Images in the context of a book design to shape and narrate a story
- Supporting essays and words
- Copyright issues; yours and others
- Book printing and bindery considerations
- Marketing and selling a book
As personal projects that can evolve into a photobook help sustain and define ourselves as photographers, so too does this workshop help move towards that goal. Past participants have stated that this is like a 4rd grade book making class on steroids. It’s a wonderful combination of intense creativity in a fun and low stress & supporting setting.
