Anthropogenic road trip – Zion National Park

Anthropogenic Crisis No. 14394 (Zion) copyright 2022 Douglas Stockdale

We just returned from an interesting road trip to Colorado and back. As we call it; an opportunity to ‘visit’ the snow. Our first real trip since the start of the pandemic, which being fully vaccinated, we still employed various cautions, such as wearing a mask, which is much more than many of those around us. It was also an opportunity to monitor what facilities and infrastructure that were in place for an all electric vehicle, since this is (or at least for us) a two-day drive to Colorado from Southern California. Looking for facilities for re-charging an e-vehicle had mixed results, but at the moment, does require some careful pre-planning for the type of extended trip.

The first leg of our trip was to St George, Utah, about a 400 mi destination. In our SUV, this is two tanks of gas while the extended range of all electric cars is an average of 250 miles and with some newer e-cars getting 300+ miles. We would still need at least one re-charge to make this first day as it stands now. And to find a compatible re-charge station, an available hook-up and hopefully it would be a ‘quick-charge’ to minimize the time getting re-charged. I guess if a re-charge station was near someplace decent to eat, it could be a two-fer. Btw, Las Vegas is about 275 miles from us on the same pathway, thus one full charge of an e-vehicle could get us there. hmmm.

While in St. George after getting checked in to the hotel, we did a local side-trip to Zion National Park, but only to the beginning of it located in Springdale (Utah), photo above. Fortunately some interesting clouds that were hovering in the right place allowed me to make this Anthropogenic Crisis photo. Which is a nice two-fer and counts as a win-win for this leg of our trip on our way out to Colorado.

Cheers,

Doug
