Camouflage 2 – Entanglement series

Camouflage #2, (Entanglement series) 2023 copyright Douglas Stockdale

Cyanotype print from digital negative, the second titled Camouflage from this same series. Photographed this site last month with a 50mm Distagon on my Hasselblad using expired Ektar 100 (2019) 120 film on a decommissioned WWII/Korean War practice Bombing Range in Southern California.

As a note, I find that I continue to fine tune my cyanotype printing process and that having a LED UV lightbox is really helping with providing some consistency. This print reconfirmed that using an initial low pH (5.5) water bath development improves the contrast and provides a robust blue hue to my prints. Very nice. As a result, I find that I need to tweak some of my earlier digital negative files to take full advantage of these results. So what to call the earlier prints that lack the contrast and hue that I pre-visualized? Maybe ‘Trial Prints’ (T/P) as they do with stone lithography printing? Or I may use some of these prints to experiment with some of the other alternative cyanotype printing processes…

Camouflage #2 (Entanglement series), print image is 9 x 9″ on a 11 x 14″ sheet of Revere Platinum archival cotton rag, printed 2023, Variable Edition of 5 + 1AP.

Cheers & Make every Day an Earth Day.
