This is the second book sell-out announcement for 2020, the first is one of my Ciociaria Limited Editions (Cachi (Persimmons), Morolo, Italy). Wow. Technically all of the copies of the softcover Guide book are not entirely gone, but after a quick check of my dwindling inventory and a decision that I am not going to reprint this book, I needed to stop selling the few remaining copies I had left. sorry.
As a reminder the Guide is a book commission I received to create a practical how-to book on the book development basics, from project inception to printing along with some book marketing ideas. The Guide really leans into my book workshops content (another with Medium coming up soon, see link below). The vast majority of the printed Guide books were provided to the 2018 Medium Photo Festival attendees, so that helped ensure a quick sell-out.
One of the fun aspects of the Guide was being able to include printing on three different papers to provide a preview of how a color or a black & white photograph might look like (another aspect of pre-visualization) when printed on either a matte, semi-gloss (luster) or glossy paper stock.
The few copies remaining are being reserved for those attending my next couple of book workshops as well for individuals who are working directly with me on their book development projects. I will have to admit that I have not seriously marketed the Guide as I have been a bit preoccupied with my other photographic book projects, so the recent book sales have not been staggering. yuk, yuk.
Add to that, I do not believe my future is writing how-to technical books for the fine arts, even if this was my second how-to book on self-publishing, although it is really nice to take advantage of my existing book workshop outline to create this book and get ‘er done. A very nice book win-win.
