Now that we are able to see the amazing photographs of the universe being captured by the James Webb space telescope, who cannot be blown out of their chairs? Wow! Even though I am trying to stay focused on the pre-launch activities of my new artist book, I find myself captivated by these stellar images. Being a science-geek, I also find myself contemplating my pandemic project, Quantum Elements.
The science that structures the universe is equally applicable to atomic events that occur here on Earth, we just cannot observe directly what is occurring at the sub-atomic granular level. We can see visual evidence in our macro world that some of things occurring at the sub-atomic function are similar to ‘out-there’. Which brings me to my attempts to capture some of the macro attributes of quantum mechanics in this project.
Btw, the quantum mechanic science guys use the theories of Fresnel Coefficents to explain some of what can be seen in this image above, including the color attributes that we call color-fringing. Earlier, when writing about the pending launch of the James Webb space telescope, I had speculated on what we might find and see. I do not think that I had come close…nevertheless, while working on this project in 2020, I had thought that the inherent color-fringing was distracting (see the earlier version below) so I used the Photoshop Raw process to eliminating it. I now think that removing the color-fringing might have been a mistake, as the original image above I think looks more interesting and to be more in line with what the Webb space-scope is capturing. Cool! So I will have a lot of work to ‘correct’ many of my earlier images. It’s all good…
Cheers & make every day an Earth Day
