Hybrid Artist Book

My next artist book is an interesting meld of commercial printing and personal printing that when assembled will create a hybrid artist book. Part of this book will be hand-made (cover and one interior page spread) while incorporating aspects of commercial printing; what I consider as a wonderful win-win. See sample below of where these two elements meet at the title page as I incorporate a signed pigment print with every artist book, which is on a Red River premium matte (double-sided) paper.

One of my concerns with self-printing the interior double page spread were better handled with commercial printing on a big offset litho press. And how this interior double page spread then integrated with the remainder of the interior text block in how the adjacent pages would work with this double page spread. Thus, one thing led to another and since I had to have the large sheets litho printed, I just added more pages onto this sheet to leverage what I needed to have printed.

Good news: I just received a printers sample of the printed litho sheet as well as a folded and trimmed interior block for review and approval. And this sample is looking great as anticipated from their earlier hard proof. Okay, there were a few tweaks for their bindery operations, which they stated that they would incorporate my changes and pay attention to in production. Always something, but there is a constant need to pay attentions to all of the details.

This artist book is going to happen! So I am now on track for a Fall 2022 release, with the printer finishing their trim and folding while I start working on printing my part of this artist book. Then the arduous work of final assembly and hand pamphlet stitching the artist books together. Cool!
