I have the pleasure of being one of the two judges, along with Gerry Clausing, Associate Editor of PhotoBook Journal, for the Los Angeles Center of Photography (LACP) first Photo Book Competition. Cool!
There are two basics & very broad photobook catagories:
1) Self-published (blurb, lulu etc) and all hand-made artists books
2) Published works from any commercial publisher
Other prizes and recognition for the winner as well as some of the selected photobooks for honorable mention and merit include: exhibited during the Portfolio Walk on Friday, September 13, 2019 at EXPOSURE Weekend at the Hotel MdR in Marina del Rey and will be on exhibtion at the Los Angeles Center of Photography (LACP) in Hollywood from September 16 – October 16, 2019.
I just finished working with the LACP team to add an another prize for the winner of each catagory; the winning photobook will be reviewed on PhotoBook Journal sometime in the Fall.
The deadline for submission is coming up quick: Thursday, August 8th
Notifications will be sent out August 29th.
More information and submission requirements are available from LACP here.
Good luck & I am looking forward to see all of the submissions.
PS for those who are thinking of creating a photobook and would like some ideas and assistance in how to accomplish it; Elizabeth Avedon will be providing a one-day book design workshop during EXPOSURE Weekend. You can also check out my interview of Avedon about her impressive book design background, including designing Richard Avedon’s famous photobooks, and what she plans to provide during the workshop which is featured on PhotoBook Journal.
