Wo Zhi Kan Kan (JiaShan, China) 2008/2023 Copyright Douglas Stockdale –
I am very honored that my cyanotype print titled “Wo Zhi Kan Kan” (Mandarin for “I Am Just Looking”) was selected by guest juror, Ann Jastrab (Executive Director/Curator of the Center for Photographic Art, in Carmel, CA) for The Photographer’s Eye (Escondido, CA) (s)Light of Hand 2023, an exhibition of Alternative Photographic Processes.
I am equally excited that this is my first cyanotype print selected for exhibition. I had submitted my recent cyanotypes for other exhibitions and I have been concerned that as an alternative processed image, these did not ‘read’ very well. Thus, I have stated to defer making my cyanotype print submissions to only open calls for alternative photography processes. So for my first alt photo event submission, I was juried in. This is a very nice validation that I seem to be doing something right in what I chose to print as a cyanotype.
I might have to go back and look at my China portfolio again, there might be another interesting potential cyanotype print lurking there…LoL
The Photographer’s Eye (Escondido, CA) exhibition is July 8th – 29th, 2023 with the opening reception Saturday, July 8th, 4pm – 7:30pm.
Cyanotype print, Wo Zhi Kan Kan (JiaShan, China), copyright 2008/2023, image is 8 x 10″ on a 11 x 14″ sheet of archival Revere Platinum hot press cotton rag, variable edition of 5 + 1AP.
