NYC Trade Center – Ground 0 (2003)

Today, reflecting on the 9-11 events that occurred 25 years ago. I think everyone remembers where they were that day. The breaking News of a plane flying into the NYC Trade Center was just announced when I was leaving go to the airport for a flight to Puerto Rico. WtF? How could something like that have happened?

When I arrived at the airport, it was blocked by the police with signage that all flights were cancelled. Wow. I think it really started to hit me on my drive back to the house. Then returning home, to watch all of the subsequent events unfold.

A few years later while on a business trip to NYC, a couple of us when over to visit what was now the Big Hole, the aftermath of clearing out the Trade Center, Ground 0. The scale was immense. Again, the magnitude and scale of what occurred was overwhelming, realizing again the limitations of seeing all of this on a small tv screen versus the real-thing.

When I saw a memorial, above, my only goal was trying to place it into a relevant environmental context. My photographs of the empty hole that was once the Trade Center did not seem to do justice to what had occurred, thus I opted for something a little more understated while hopefully just as emotionally poignant.
