So if I am in an exhibition that just after it’s hung, the city of L.A. and State of CA shut all of the galleries down due to COVID-19, so that nobody attends or visits, does that “exhibition” get included in my CV? Did that exhibition then really happen? My current situation of one hand clapping.
In the current example of what’s occurring for Los Angeles Center of Photograph (LACP), we also don’t know how long this shadow exhibition will be hanging, since no one can be present to take it down. Maybe once the all-clear is announced, there will be an extension for the exhibition dates and a new date announced for a closing reception, meanwhile all of the previously planned exhibitions get pushed out for new dates.
I think the bigger problem is we don’t know what the new-normal will be.
So just speculation on my part. As well as others. Fortunately I don’t need to worry about updating my CV until all of this blows over, assuming it will. Really crazy times…
Meanwhile, I am working on some new projects and there is time to make submissions for previous work, again, assuming that the galleries I submit to will survive this economic blow. I guess a good time to think about virtual sales process. I announced for PhotoBook Journal that we are not accepting book submissions right now (nasty virus can live on cardboard for 24 to 48 hours), so we are not shipping or receiving books. Similarly, if I receive a print order, I can make the print and then hold it until the smoke clears. Okay?
Cheers, stay healthy and safe my friends,
Doug
